US Issue ICW combat boots normally require the use of a removable "bootie" which is a thinner version of booties you would wear lounging around at home. These booties are water proof and warm. The booties extend all of the way up to your ankle, which means if you wear the boots without them, the boot will slop around (including the ankle of the boot). You can wear the ICW boots with thick socks, but it's just not the same.
Other than this, ICW boots are amazing.

Admittedly, I am not familiar with tan boots. I always get mine in black for dress purposes. Out of the box, these are very form fitting almost like a preworn item. The leather is soft, supple, and clean. They are very comfortable. I got mine in 11.5W. When you get them, don't be alarmed, they are meant to be worn with a thick wool sock. They are huge if you aren't thick socks. They're meant for cold weather so most people would be wearing thick socks anyways.
